Character Education Beliefs

The Hardin County Board of Education, students, parents, faculty and staff believe that character is important, can be learned and enhanced, and consists of being genuinely concerned about others, good citizens, courteous, honest, just, knowledgeable, respectful, responsible, self disciplined and respectful of the worth and dignity of all people.

Hardin County Schools work together with parents and community to integrate virtues within the fabric of both Hardin County Schools and within the Hardin County community. This is an ongoing initiative that extends beyond the classroom and is woven into the very fabric of our entire district. Everyone (teachers, assistants, administrators, food service, transportation, maintenance, secretaries, etc.) can model and reinforce the ten character principles we continue to emphasize.

The ten words we have chosen for Character Education relate directly or indirectly to an event or holiday in the month it was chosen for. The color that corresponds with each word can be used to emphasize a deeper meaning of the word in art or attire. HCS has developed a Character Education video series, "World Class Character Building" and "Character Matters". These videos can be accessed at your schools' library or the HCS Central Media Center.
